I decided yesterday that I'll try to start waking up earlier and see how that goes for motivation. So far, so good, as I was able to roll out by 7am and am here typing this entry by 7:15am. While I don't have much to talk about at the moment, these early-morning entries could be a good opportunity to get a more honest version of myself out on the page instead of worrying about having to clip what I'm saying due to time constraints and needing to divert my attention elsewhere.
As far as life, not much happened during yesterday. Rain started sometime in the middle of the night and we're in a flood watch until tomorrow (knock on wood but we live in a rather flood-avoidant area), so it's kind of 50/50 with the moods for me. The darkness of the clouds is probably going to sour me a little bit but it also stirs a sense of Romanticism in me similar to how petrichor does. I'm sure I'll have more interesting things to say about it.
Otherwise, we've been continuing a watch of Heroes (I've never seen it before) and planning for a camping trip with friends next month. I'm excited to see I can keep up with this new morning routine but there's also a history of slipping up and going back to my old routine after a week or two. Fingers crossed - maybe this blog can be my motivator to stick the landing. - A.B. 5/13/25
P.S. Today's albums are going to be a two-for based on my listens yesterday, the theme being weirdo 70s brothers-focused groups I like. The first one everybody knows and may/may not love: the Bee Gees, represented with 1975's Main Course, while the second one is cult-favorites Sparks with Indiscreet, also from 1975.
Featured image is a photo from a rainy day in San Francisco by Todd Diemer. Looking at it brings back some memories from when I went there in January 2023. That was a complicated trip in some ways but that street scene Diemer captured reminds of being caught in the rain in North Beach while we were trying to get to dinner at The Stinking Rose. It's funny how a picture has that effect on memory.
