Tonight I'm attempting to make a "Biff" Wellington. Beef Wellingtons are notoriously tricky and expensive to make, so I'm basically cobbling together several recipes together (one for the crepe, another for the duxelles, etc.) while doing this all with a ground beef torpedo instead of a filet. I have no idea how this is going to work, let alone succeed, but I'm more than willing to try it out. If that fails, my adventure in Chicken Supreme later this week look more promising.

Last night, we got into a conversation about James Spader and my spouse reminded me about a movie they saw as a kid called Critical Care. I never even heard of it before I met them, so I watched it for the first time. It's not a bad movie and I'm actually surprised it didn't amass a larger cult following. I suspect it didn't get shown at many theaters - it's definitely a product of the mid-90s indie film boom - and so not many people would've encountered it. It's supposed to be a comedy-drama but the tones are wonky in the weirdest places but it has some interesting direction choices I could see some Criterion Collectors appreciating. I'd give it a 6 or 7 out of 10.

Life's just crunching along as usual. Going camping in June so excited about planning for that soon. Caught up with some of my YouTube backlog as well (posted below, both dealing with politics and the current U.S. situation) and plan on posting a couple micro-posts throughout the day. One's going to be a mini version of the Link Roundups I used to have quarterly, which might become a monthly occurrence. The other's going to focus on albums to listen to for International Jazz Day while you work or relax.

Goodbye April, see you next year. - A.B. 4/30/25
