While my spouse was at a work event last night, I decided to check out about 4-5 episodes of an anime called Sakamoto Days that was released last season. It's a cute if incredibly stupid show (the trailers made it look like it was something more than it actually is), reminding me of some of the C-grade shows I watched when I was younger. After really enjoying both Dandadan and the Ranma 1/2 remake, this was the reminder why I mostly left anime behind as I've gotten older. For every good show, there's about 10 mediocre-to-crap time-wasters and I have absolutely zero interest in the current genre of choice. Also took some time to do some cleaning and make more headway on a great audiobook I've been chipping away at these days (Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe - will post more about this later when I’m finished).
Aside from that, there's been several articles of interest I've found plus a good video from Little White Lies about the Dogme 95 movement, which has always baffled me... - A.B. 4/25/25:
"How to think about the sublime" by Nicole C. Hill (Psyche)
"Done in by Time" by Joseph Epstein (The Lamp)
"It's Good You're Bored at the Symphony, Actually" by Mary R. (Substack)
"The 5 Basic Laws of Human Stupidity" by Thomas Wagner (Bon Pote)
"A year of hate: what I learned when I went undercover with the far right" by Harry Shukman (The Guardian)
"David Rieff foretells the fate of woke" by Lee Siegal (The New Statesman)
""Poetry City": Iowa City, Iowa" by Harry Stecopoulos (Public Books)
P.S. Today is also World Penguin Day. Think I need to plan for something special for next year to celebrate. (Photo used for this post's featured image is from Yvette Zhang.)
