Micro-post #224: The Fearsome Critters of Logging Country U.S.A. [Halloween 2026 #2]

I'm not usually a devotee of cryptozoology (both because it's a pseudoscience and it feels almost too cringy to really enjoy), but some of the creatures people have created stories around are pretty funny. Case in point: the "fearsome critters" lumberjacks would weave goofy tall tales around to bullshit their way out of boredom and prank the greener 'jacks. There's a whole universe of these things out there, so here are a few decent resources to learn more about hidebehinds, squonks, goofus birds, and other hilariously stupid but menacing fake creatures.
