Like with Sonny Rollins recently, this is more of "Wow, I got to live during the same time as this legendary artist I like but don't know a lot about" memorial. I've seen some of Hockney's works in different museums over the years (the ones I remember the most vividly were the ones at the Art Institute of Chicago) and appreciated his brushwork, but didn't really take the time to pay close attention they seem to ask from the viewer. The timing of his death during Pride Month also seems oddly appropriate, since he was openly gay around the time the U.K. was decriminalizing male homosexuality. He was definitely a talent, and I feel like posting some things to commemorate his passing is a decent way to mark that.
