Sometimes, these micro-posts are also going to just be lists or short definitions of cultural literacy-kind of things. Here's one of those.


There are various kinds of short sayings but people often mix them up since they don't always know the distinctions...


  • Aphorism: a concise expression of a general truth or principle.

  • Proverb/Adage: a traditional saying about a common-sense truth.

  • Epigram: a brief and memorably satirical statement.

  • Maxim: a saying expressing a general moral rule.

  • Epitaph: a statement about a dead person.

  • Quip: a funny/witty observation.
