Extra Credit History has been releasing a number of "Complete Edition" videos lately that have been really enjoyable to watch and last night I got to catch up with the latest one about Japanese militarism during the early 20th century. Actually learned a lot too, since their road to WWII was radically different from the story we get about Europe and has some telling similarities to events going on these days. It's also connected in a way to the video I re-posted on Sun Yat-sen a while ago.
See below for the video, which should be watched following their complete series about the Meiji Restoration (the "End of the Samurai" video), which is about the events before the Taishō and early Showa periods. I've also included some key Wikipedia entries to delve into more context if interested.
